Curtis Buchanan, Obituary

Mr. Curtis James Buchanan, age 56, a native of Daviston, Alabama and long-time resident 1658 Cooledge Street, Wadley, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika.

Public viewing and visitation hours for Mr. Buchanan will be observed on Saturday, December 29, 2012 between the hours of 12:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

Mr. Buchanan will lie in State at the church one hour prior to funeral services. Funeral Services for Mr. Buchanan will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at 2:00 O'Clock PM at the Cogar Hill C.M.E. Church, Frederick Ferry Road, Daviston, Alabama. Reverend William Drummond is Pastor, Officiating will be the Reverend, Bradley Gibson, pastor of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Newsite, Alabama.

Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery at Cogar Hill C.M.E. Church Cemetery, Daviston, immediately after the service.
OBITUARY

Curtis James Buchanan was born March 23, 1956, in Daviston, Tallapoosa County, Alabama to Mrs. Ethel Lee (Lindsey) Buchanan and the late Ananias Buchanan.

He departed this life on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika, Alabama at the age of 56.

At an early age, he joined the Cogar Hill C.M.E. Church where he remained a member until his passing. He frequently attended the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Newsite. He attended Zane County Training School and graduated in 1976, from Daviston High School. He was a loyal employee in the logging industry for more than 30 for Drake Logging until declining health interrupted his employment.

He married the former Ms. Edith Meadows, with whom he parented five children: three (3) sons: Sgt. Steven DeNoris Buchanan (Crystal) of Bamberg, Germany, Corien Milton Buchanan and Jasper Buchanan of Daviston, Alabama; and one (2) daughters, Joyce Heard (Willie) and Jessica Buchanan both of Daviston, Alabama.

Curtis was preceded in death by his father, Ananias Milton Buchanan; and two brothers Ananias Buchanan, Jr., and John David Buchanan.

Curtis leaves to mourn his passing, celebrate his life and cherish many precious memories… his mother Mrs. Ethel Lee Buchanan of Wadley, Alabama; two (2) brothers: Travis Buchanan (Rudine) of Daviston, Alabama and Joesharon Buchanan (Hazel) of Birmingham, Alabama; five (5) sisters: Ruby Dean Brown (Ernest) of Birmingham, Alabama, Alice Lewis of Daviston, Alabama, Mattie Staples, Mary L. Staples, and Clemis Bledsoe (Dennis) all of Wadley, Alabama; eleven (11) grandchildren; a special friend, Deacon Henry Knight (Proverbs 18:24) of Newsite, Alabama; a special niece, Jackie Wyckoff; two special nephews: George DeTrey Staples and Kelvin Staples; a very special friend, Sally Meadows of Miami, Florida (Proverbs 17:17); and finally a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

All acts of kindness -- prayers, phone calls, cards, flowers, and food -- have been a source of comfort during this time. A very special “thank-you” is extended to Jackie Wyckoff, and for Reverend Bradley Gibson and the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Newsite, Alabama who was there for Curtis every step of the way. We are also grateful to Charlotte Bishop and her staff and Dr. Akin and the staff of East Alabama Medical Center for both the compassion and care given to our brother during his illness.
