To all our family and friends:
It is with great sadness that our families announce the passing of a very special lady — our beautiful mother, the gracious Mrs. Cora Lee Ware, 86, a long-time resident of Cannon Street, currently residing at Traylor's Nursing Home in Roanoke. Many remember Cora as the beloved widow of the late William "Billo" Ware. We are deeply heartbroken to have to bear such sad news; however, we must begin this journey of letting her go. Thank you for all the sympathy and concern shown to us during this very difficult time.
CORA LEE WARE OBITUARY
Miss Cora Lee Satterwhite was born in Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama on November 12 1937 to the parentage of the late John Lee and Cora (Foster) Satterwhite. Cora was the youngest of a family of nine children of this parentage Cora always expressed a belief that perhaps three of the nine siblings may have died in infancy. As all youngsters did during her childhood and youth, Cora attended high school at the historic Randolph Country Training School (RCTS) — where she advanced to senior high school status.
On June 8, 1968, she married the love of her life, the late William "Billo" Ware, fondly remembered for being a talented mechanic very skillful in small engine repair. Cora's marriage to "Billo" gave rise to a beautifully blended family. Throughout their partnership, she was probably his biggest cheerleader and the best advertisement — because often as he worked on the small projects, Cora used her talent at entertaining his clients with her infectious smile and engaging conversation. They remained faithfully wed until his death on December 30, 2000 at age 61. And so it was that God allowed her to continue her journey for twenty-four (24) more years after her husband's passing.
God blessed Cora, a life-long member of Peace and Goodwill Baptist Church, with a long beautiful life, which — by reason of health and strength — enabled her to outlive all of her siblings: Lonnie George Satterwhite, Rufus J. Satterwhite, Lillie Mae Lindsey, Jessie Collins, and Willie Maude DeRamus; a step-son, William Ware, Jr.; a beloved uncle, Donnie Foster; and a wonderfully brilliant grandson, Xavier Alvarez (2014). However, after walking with God for 86 years, last Wednesday, June 12, 2024, God dispatched his angels to bring her home. She was at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center in Lagrange., GA.
Cora's loved ones left to — mourn her departure — cherish her memory — and celebrate her life — include: her children; Ms. Sandra Bernice Henderson, Mrs. Sybil Dianne Perry, Johnny Ware, Jimmy Rogers Ware, Brenda J. Ware, Mary J. Brown, and Louise Minnifield; four (4) grandchildren; Tonia Daniel, Antwon Heard (Carrie), Udonquak Wilkes (Maria), Charles Wilkes (Nakeisha); fourteen (14) great-grandchildren; four (4) great-great grandchildren; a god-daughter, Dorothy Jean Foster; and a host of other beloved neighbors and friends who have missed having her on the Corner Of Avenue "A" and Cannon Street in Roanoke.
