It is with very heavy hearts and deepest sympathy we inform you of the passing from this life of Mrs. Clemis Bledsoe, a resident of 710 Cooledge Street, Wadley, Alabama. Mrs. Bledsoe transitioned from this life on Friday, October 9, 2020 at University Of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama.
Clemis Ann Buchanan was born in Tallapoosa County, Alabama on February 19, 1953, to the parentage of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ananias (aka Bud) and Ethel Lee Buchanan. It was there that she grew up with her large loving family of brothers and sisters, where the family joined and attended the Cogar Hill C.M.E. Church. As a child, she attended Zana Training School in Daviston, later graduating from Daviston High School. As a young lady, Clemis enjoyed playing girls softball. From the time she was a young woman, she joined with her sisters, Alice, and Mattie and Mary in delivering astounding Gospel vocals all over the area. These young women traveled together singing God's praises everywhere. By and by, Clemis decided to retire from performing and become a loving wife and mother; but she continued to be active in the church serving on the Usher Board.
Clemis is married to Mr. Albert Dennis Bledsoe of Wadley, Alabama.
One of the most devastating events of Clemis' life was losing her son, Terrence Wilkes, a promising young athlete, who at a young age was struck down by a drive-by assassin's bullet. It was with reluctance and heavy hearts on Friday, October 9, 2020 at University Of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham, we released and allowed her to join hands with her father, Ananias; her mother, Ethel; brothers: Ananias, Jr., John David, Curtis, Travis, a great-granddaughter, Haven Drummonds, and her beloved son, Terrence.
We join her family in mourning her passing including her husband, Albert Dennis Bledsoe of Wadley, Alabama; sons: Dennis, Jr. Buchanan (Kimberly), Paul Wilkes (Nikki) and Dontavious Heard all of Wadley, Alabama; daughter, Kim Buchanan of Roanoke, Alabama; nine (9) beloved grandchildren; Daylan, Shaitasha, Rushun, Danequa, Angel, Troy, Jaliya, Jaquez, and LaQuincy; her brother, Joe Buchanan (Hazel) of Birmingham; sisters: Alice Lewis of Daviston, Alabama, The Honorable Councilwoman Mattie Staples and Mary Staples both of Wadley, Alabama, Ruby Brown (Ernest) of Birmingham, Alabama; one (1) uncle, A.J. Buchanan; two (2) aunts: Naomi Slaughter and Mary Buchanan; five (5) special nephews: Christopher Staples, Alphonso Staples, Trey Staples, Timothy Marable, and Jasper Buchanan; caregivers: her special niece, Jackie Staples and Jennifer Spence; and everyone in this family impacted by this great loss.
