THE OBITUARY
Clarence O. Edwards, was born in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey on October 6, 1951 to the parentage of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin and Matilda (Williams) Edwards. He was preceded in death by his only sister, Margaret Washington.
He graduated from Newark Tech High School in 1968. The next year, (November 3, 1969) he joined the United States Marine Corp. During his service in the Marine Corp, he worked as a Chef.
He also became an accomplished boxer and undefeated in the Marine Corp Boxing League.
He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and received a Letter of Appreciation for his service during the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of Sergeant (E-5) and was honorably discharged May 2, 1973.
Clarence was united in marriage to Ms. Carol Williams on November 23, 1974. This would prove a fruitful union. They were blessed with four (4) sons: Jermall, Antwaun, Clarence, Jr., and Dwayne. He still enjoyed cooking, but now, for his family. In the Newark area, he became a disc jockey and became known as “DJ Bug Eye.” He was also a member of Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, The American Legion, and the Marine Reserve. The family relocated to the Roanoke area in the early 90’s. In Roanoke, he found a church home with the family of believers at New Life Worship Center, in Roanoke. Clarence started working at Amoco Fabrics and Fibers as a doffer and various other jobs in the plant. Yet, with the passage of time, his life was impacted and his career interrupted by growing health concerns. And despite a gallant fight, this battle clearly could not be won Thus, concluding a prolonged battle with declining health, Clarence succumbed to death’s demand on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Wedowee Hospital, Wedowee, Alabama. Clarence gave many smiles to the world, and his passage now concludes 60 years, 12 months and 23 days of earthly bliss which he found with his loved ones, and the many paths he traveled throughout life.
