Christine Allen Obituary

Obituary For Mrs. Christine Allen

Ms. Christine Allen, age 90, of Detroit, Michigan, and formerly of Roanoke, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at O’Neill Healthcare in Lakewood, Ohio.

Born December 20, 1934, in Roanoke, Alabama, she was the beloved daughter of the late Rev. Dewitt Allen, Sr., and the late Rosa Lee Poole Allen. Christine was baptized at an early age at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church in Roanoke. After relocating, she became a dedicated member of Carter Metropolitan CME Church in Detroit, Michigan, where she sang in the choir and faithfully served for many years.

Christine attended the historic Randolph County Training School graduating with the Class of 1953. She later worked in various cities — including Atlanta, Georgia, and Chattanooga, Tennessee — before making Detroit, Michigan, her home for fifty (50) years. She was employed as a domestic and later as the head cook for Allen Nursing Home, Detroit, MI, where she was admired for her kindness, hard work, and her exceptional cooking skills. In her later years, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio due to poor health, to be near family.

Christine was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings: Rev. Rocelius Allen, Doris Thompson, Josephine Freeman, Dewitt Allen, Jr., and Mary Emily Watts.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted son, Larry Allen (Elisabeth) of Cleveland, Ohio; one granddaughter, Birgit Allen-Olsen (Edward) of Metairie, Louisiana; two great-grandsons, Elijah Olsen of Orlando, Florida, and Duncan Olsen of Metairie, Louisiana; two special nieces, Allison Thompson-Joiner (Leon) of Roanoke, Alabama, and Alesia Thompson of Roanoke, Alabama; godsons, Demarius Horn and Nicholas Sanders, both of Detroit, Michigan; nieces, Joyce Harrision (Jesse) of Detroit, Michigan, Brenda Thompson, and Jackie Heard (Rev. William) both of Roanoke, Alabama; nephew, Gregory Thompson (Denise) of Carrollton, Georgia; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

The Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Bethel Worship Center, with Bishop Lathonia Wright serving as Eulogist and Rev. Barbara Alford officiating. Public visitation will be Friday, September 19, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Clark Memorial Funeral Service.

Interment will follow in Rocky Mount United Methodist Church Cemetery, Roanoke, Alabama.

Arrangements and Professional Care have been entrusted to Watson & Son Funeral Home, Cleveland, OH, and Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke, Alabama.
