Cheryl Sims Obituary

It is with great sadness, we announce the loss of Mrs. Cheryl Charlene Pate Sims, 56, a resident of Cynthia Circle in Roanoke.  Mrs. Sims transitioned from this life on Friday, August 9, 2024 at her residence in Roanoke.  A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered.

Deeply rooted in Roanoke's community, Cheryl Pate Sims was born February 23, 1968 to the parentage of the late Ronald Pate, and Shirley (Strickland) Shepherd both natives of Randolph County, Alabama.  On both parents' side of her family, her grandparents — the late Ceroy Clyde and Naomi Pate, and the late Charlie Joe and Ruby Strickland planted deep roots either in or near our communities.

On July 9, 1993, Cheryl married her husband of thirty-one years, Mr. Jeffery Sims of Wedowee, Alabama.
Their marriage gave rise to a son, Jeffery Jamal Sims (predeceased).

A 1985 graduate of Handley High School, Cheryl attended Auburn University, graduating in 1990 with a Bachelor Of Science Degree in Business Management.  She utilized the skills gained from her undergraduate studies while employed at Terry Manufacturing Company for more than 20 years — serving in various positions, the last being Data Processing Manager.   Aside from her long tenure at Terry's, she also worked at Alabama Power Company, Intercall, in Valley, AL, and at Walmart.

In addition to her parents and grandparents, Cheryl was preceded in death by her only son, Jeffery Jamal Sims.

During life, Cheryl was very blessed to have her late father, Ronald Pate, and her bonus mother, Mrs. Kathy Royston Pate as well as bonus children: Cortney Sims, Andrew Sims, and Persis Sims in her life.

Cheryl is also survived by her brothers: Kevin Pate, Viondi Pate, and sister, Naomi Pate;  five grandchildren; ten aunts; three uncles; one  nephew, Antavious Marable; two nieces: Madison Pate, Sandora Barney; and lastly a host of loving cousins, relatives and friends.

Cheryl gave many smiles and special moments to the world, her family and her friends. We will all miss Cheryl and cherish our memories of her. May she rest in peace and power.

Cheryl's Memorial Service will be held at Canaan Baptist Church, (Welch Community) Roanoke, AL on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 2:00 O'Clock PM.
