It is with very heavy hearts that we inform you of the passing from this life of our long-time neighbor, Minister Charlie Amos Rowland, 73, a native and resident of the historic East Roanoke community, Roanoke Alabama. Minister Rowland peacefully transitioned from this life on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at the Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center in Lagrange, GA.
Charlie Amos Rowland was born in Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama on February 13, 1947, to the parentage of the late Calvin Rowland, Sr., and Beatrice Smith Rowland. He was one of the twelve (12) siblings born to this parentage, raised in a Christian home, and grew up here in the Historic East Roanoke Community, where he was steadfast in learning how to live a Christian life. He was a life-long member of the East Roanoke Pure Holiness Church of God where he served in many capacities. A dedicated minister, he was passionate about preaching the Gospel. He also enjoyed fishing and spending quality time with his family and his children.
Charlie graduated from Campbell High School in Smyrna, Georgia and Kerr College in LaGrange, Georgia.
Charlie united in marriage with the late Mrs. Rosa Lee (Traylor) Rowland. Their union blossomed into a loving blended family consisting of seven children, 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
From the time of his youth, Charlie devoted his life to working in the retail grocery industry, serving as the assistant to the late John Frank Burdette, and later at Winn Dixie Foods. Ultimately this became a career for Charlie.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, the late Calvin and Beatrice (Smith) Rowland, his wife Rosa Rowland, and one (1) brother, Ernest General Rowland and his wife, Lela Mae. Having walked with Jesus for seventy-three years, Charlie was called home from earthly labor to eternal rest.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Rowland family, both immediate and extended. His survivors consist of his loving family of seven (7) children including sons: Willie Weaver (Arlene) of Waldorf, MD, Leonard Weaver of Roanoke, AL and Kenneth Weaver of Troy, NY; daughters: Priscilla Guzman (Jose) of Columbia, SC, Evelyn Staples of Roanoke, AL, Tammy Butler (Lavelle) of Toledo, OH and Charlene Rowland of Birmingham, AL; brothers: Calvin Rowland (Beverly) of Birmingham, AL, Samuel Rowland (Deborah) of Valdosta, GA, Stanley Rowland (Jennifer), Kenneth Rowland, Wayne Rowland (Candy) and Thomas Rowland (Linda) all of Roanoke, AL; sisters: Evelyn Rowland, Rhonda Rowland, and Monica Rowland and Teresia Rowland all of Roanoke, AL; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
