On Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, after a lengthy illness, our beloved friend and schoolmate and Roanoke Native, Mr. Charles Edward "Johnson" Jones, 63, of Lanett died peacefully at Golden Living Center in Lanett.

On Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, after a lengthy illness, Mr. Charles Edward "Johnson" Jones, 63, of Lanett died peacefully at Golden Living Center in Lanett.

Funeral services will be at noon Thursday, Dec. 10, at Bethel United Methodist Church, Roanoke.

The Reverend Dr. Jacquelyn J. Cumberlander will, officiate, with Moderator William A. Dean serving as Eulogist, with burial following immediately after in the East Roanoke Cemetery, Corner of Avenue "A" and Chemical Avenue, in Roanoke, Alabama.

The Obituary

The son of Marie Heflin and the late Fred Johnson, Mr. Jones was born Aug. 2, 1952, in Pensacola, Fla. Charles attended Randolph County Training School and later joined the Job Corps. He joined Bethel United Methodist Church at an early age. After returning to Roanoke, he was employed by the City of Roanoke as a sanitation worker. Charles eventually moved to Anniston, where he labored several years in the manufacturing industry. Later in life, Charles returned to Roanoke to be closer to his family and friends. Charles enjoyed doing landscaping work for friends in the community. A tenderhearted gentlemen, he would often be seen walking through the neighborhood with a smile on his face.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Marie Heflin; two sisters, Jerri Ann Dean and Vicky Robinson, all of Roanoke; two brothers, Fred Johnson of Atlanta and Danny Robinson of San Jose, Calif.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
