Catherine Houston Obituary

With deepest regret, we announce the passing from this life of Mrs. Catherine (Stone) Houston, age 76, a resident of 118 Robin Road, Wedowee, Alabama 36278, on Thursday evening, December 14, 2017 at Tanner East Alabama in Wedowee.

Mrs. Houston will be available for viewing on Monday, December 18, 2017 from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm.

Services for Mrs. Houston will be Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Union Chapel United Methodist Church, Wedowee, Alabama. The Reverend James Gresham, Pastor will serve as Eulogist. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Nephews and friends of the family will serve as Pall Bearers.

Catherine Stone was born in Wedowee, Alabama on, July 6, 1941 to the parentage of the late Mr & Mrs. R.B. and Katie (Heath) Stone. To her children and many of her grandchildren, she was affectionately known as "Gip."

At an early age she joined Union Chapel United Methodist Church, where she remained a faithful member until her passing.

She married Mr. Joe Lewis Houston in Randolph County, Alabama. Their union was blessed with four (4) children -- two sons and two daughters.

Catherine worked for most of her adult life. She devoted about 20 years as a production worker at Gold Kist Poultry in Carrollton, Georgia. She late worked for about 30 years at Candlewick Yarns, in the twisting department. After more than 50 years of employment, Catherine retired.

Catherine spent the majority of her adult life in Wedowee, except for about 10 years during which she resided in Atlanta, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, R.B. and Katie Stone, one (1) son-in-law, John Bailey; three (3) brothers, Jessie Lee Stone, Joe Stone and Jimmy Stone and one brother-in-law, Bill Houston. Catherine departed this life on Thursday evening, December 14, 2017 at Tanner, East Alabama Medical Center, Wedowee.

Our deepest Sympathy is extended to her entire family including: her husband, Joe Lewis Houston of Atlanta, Georgia; two (2) sons: Joe Lewis Houston, Jr. (Sandra) and Donald Wayne Houston (Nellie Ann); two (2) daughters, Jeanette Watts (Curtis) and Lillie Bailey all of Wedowee, Alabama; two (2) sisters, Betty Sims of Wedowee, Alabama and Irene Hudson of Roanoke, Alabama; one (1) sister-in-law, Cassie Stone of Woodland, Alabama; eleven (11) grandchildren, thirty-four (34) great grandchildren; her dear friend Bennie Cheeks of Woodland, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
