In Loving Memory of Brenda Joyce Patterson

Ms. Patterson was born in Welch, Chambers County, Alabama to the parentage of the late Tommie Lee and Thelma (Griggs) Patterson. Her family of origin included three sisters: Alice Williams, deceased; Dorothy Patterson, deceased, and Carolyn Patterson of Atlanta, Georgia.

At a young age, she left the area to move to Atlanta, Georgia, where she worked for the public school system as a school bus driver for several years, until a job-related injury forced her to retire.

She was married to the late Alvin Gilstrap in Atlanta, Georgia; Their marriage gave rise to two children -- a son and daughter.

While residing in Atlanta, she joined the Greater Mountain Baptist Church, under the spiritual guidance of Reverend Dante Houston. After living in the Atlanta area for several years Ms. Patterson decided to return to her roots to Roanoke, Alabama, to help raise her granddaughters in the small-town environment and away from the many temptations that accompany city life.

She joined New Beginning Outreach Ministries under the spiritual leadership of Reverend Tom Staples, remaining a faithful member there until her health compelled her to limit her activities.

Bringing a peaceful end to an extended illness Ms. Patterson transitioned from this life on Thursday morning, July 13, 2017 at her residence in Roanoke, leaving to celebrate her life, mourn her passing, and cherish her beloved memory, a son, Frederick Horton and daughter, Shimeka Patterson both of Atlanta, Georgia; and granddaughters, Kayla, Kameisha, Kourtney, and Keiwanna Patterson all of Roanoke, Alabama.
