It is with deepest regret and heartfelt sympathy that we inform you of the passing from this life of Mrs. Barbara Jean Owensby Nolan, 58, a resident of 320 Johnson Street, Roanoke, AL. Mrs. Nolan transitioned from this life on Sunday, April 4, 2021 at Tanner Medical Center, East Alabama in Wedowee.
A career Registered Nurse, Barbara Jean Owensby was born April 30, 1962, to the parentage of Sammie Lee Hughley, Jr. and the late Alice Jean Johnson. She is a native and life-long resident of Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama. Barbara attended Southern Union State Community College, after which time she became a long-standing familiar and friendly face in the health care industries throughout Randolph County. She worked in the nursing field over a period of more than 28 years -- at Wedowee Hospital, Randolph County Hospital, Roanoke Health Care Center, Golden Living Health and Rehabilitation Center (Lanett), and finally in the home-health field. A life-long and dedicated member of First Baptist Church, Barbara served the church for more than 15 years as Youth Director.
She married the late Walter L. Nolan, which gave rise to their blended family of five children and fourteen grandchildren. Walter preceded Barbara in death on April 1, 2019.
Barbara was also preceded in death by her mother, Alice Jean Johnson; grandmother, Gladys Slaughter; a step-son, Nathan L. Nolan; and two siblings: Charles Reeder, Jr. (Tamiko), and Cynthia Hooks (Stanley). She transitioned from this life on Easter Sunday morning, April 4, at Tanner Medical Center -- East Alabama in Wedowee.
In these hours of bereavement our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family which includes her father, Sammie Lee Hughley, Jr., of Atlanta, GA; two sons: Travis Owensby and Jermont Johnson; daughter Danielle Owensby and step-daughter Terra Banks (Andre) all of Roanoke, AL; brother, Maxwell Reeder of Dayton, OH; sisters: Tereon Reeder of Atlanta, GA, and Catherine Brown (Christopher) of Dayton, OH; one God Son, Corey Prayer of Roanoke AL; a brother-in-law, Stanley Hooks of LaGrange, Georgia; sisters-in-law: Tamikio Burrage Reeder of Dayton, OH, Catherine White and Dicie Sims of Roanoke, AL; aunts: Barbara Thomas, Diane Allen and Alma Owensby all of Roanoke, AL and Flora Hughley Atlanta, GA; Grandchildren: Serenity Foster, Roderick Foster, Jr., Harmony Harris, Ebony Johnson, Hannah Owensby, Ladarious Johnson, Serenity Heath, Damarius Nolan-Watts, Myrical Heard, Andre Banks, Jr., all of Roanoke, AL; Gladys Johnson, Leigha Johnson, Andre' Moss, and Denetia Morgan and finally but certainly not least of all many neighbors, and other loving relatives and friends.
