With broken hearts, the Brooks family of Roanoke, announces the passing from this life of their mother, Ms. Barbara A. Brooks, a life-long resident of the historic East Roanoke community. Ms. Brooks transitioned from this life on Sunday evening, June 25, at Tanner — East Alabama in Wedowee, AL
Barbara Ann Brooks is the daughter of the late Jesse Brooks, and Lucille Johnson-Traylor, natives of Chambers County, Alabama. Barbara was always somewhat of a "home-body" when not working, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was born in Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama on August 25, 1942.
At an early age, she joined Sweet Home Baptist Church in Five Points. She remained a life-long member of Sweet Home, attending when she could, as she spent most of her time supporting her family as a single mother. Although she was a devoted member, she was not involved in church activities because of her work demands.
Barbara attended the historic Randolph County Training School, graduating with the Class of 1961.
Barbara was a devoted employee, of Milliken & Company, LaGrange, Georgia, where she worked as a material handler and retired after more than 35 years. Barbara will long be remembered as a hard-working mother to her sons — Stanford and Stacey — who loved beautiful things, which she surrounded herself with throughout her lovely home on South Street in Roanoke.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Brooks, and Lucille Johnson-Traylor. After the death of her parents, Barbara was steadfast in caring for her younger brothers, all of whom preceded her in death, Randy Traylor (12/9/2000), Ronnie Traylor, Tracy Tyrone Traylor (7/29/2012), and Anthony Traylor (8/26/2020). She loved her younger brothers with all her heart and did everything imaginable to support them in every way possible. She stood by them through illnesses and was essentially their "Angel" on earth.
Those loved ones who remain to hold fast to cherished memories include: two (2) devoted sons: Stacey Brooks (Michelle), of Roanoke, AL and Stanford Brooks (Pamela) of Douglasville, GA; one (1) Granddaughter: Ashley Brooks; and two (2) Grandsons: Stanford Brooks, Jr. and Dylan Brooks; one (1) Great Grandson, Terrance Dunn; and a host of other loving relatives, neighbors, and friends.
