With deepest regret, we announce the passing from this life of Mr. Arthur Ray Sims, 75, a resident of 1269 County Road 56, Wedowee, Alabama 36278. Mr. Sims transitioned from this life on Tuesday evening, October 30, 2018 at Tanner Medical Center East Alabama in Wedowee, Alabama.
Visitation and viewing hours for Mr. Sims will be observed on Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 1:00 until 6:00 pm.
Funeral services for Mr. Sims will be observed Monday, November 5, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Antioch Baptist Church, 820 Woodland Avenue, NW, Wedowee, Alabama 36278. The Pastor, Reverend Steinway Cash will serve as Eulogist. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery at Antioch Baptist Church, Wedowee.
Mr. Arthur Ray Sims was born in Wedowee, Alabama on August 1, 1943 to the parentage of the late Douglas and Fannie Mae (Knight) Sims. He joined Caanan Baptist Church at an early age where he was ordained as a Deacon. Deacon Sims served on the Deacon board for many years. Later, he joined Antioch Baptist Church where he also served on the Deacon Board. In addition to being very active in the church. Mr. Sims was a Freemason and a “people person” who loved helping people; cleaning wells, and hanging out at Ruth’s Flea Market.
Arthur Ray devoted most of his adult life working in the construction industry. He was preceded in death by siblings: Eldora Molden, John William Sims, Joe Frank Sims, Repatree Sims, and Willie Ruth Bailey. He transitioned from this life on Tuesday evening, October 29, 2018 at Tanner Medical Center, East Alabama in Wedowee, Alabama.
Mr. Sims is survived by his devoted wife, Mrs. Barbara Sims of Wedowee, Alabama; two daughters: Kim Okushi and Michelle Sims; and grandson, Michah Okushi all of Marietta, Georgia; brothers: William Douglas Sims, Jr., Grady Lee Sims (Catherine), Andrew Jackson Sims (Ann); Sisters: Lovie Mae Tyler, Annie Lois Marsh, Ivers Sims (Vanessa); Eva Houston; Ylander Faye Smith, and a host of loving relatives, neighbors and friends.
