With astounding sadness, the Carlisle and Jones families of the Historic East Roanoke Community, must announce to our beloved community the heartbreaking news of the homegoing of our precious mother, sister, aunt, and cherished friend Mrs. Annye Catherine (Jones) Carlisle, 73, a long time resident of 147 South Street. More details to follow...
Annye Catherine Jones was born in Randolph County, Alabama on November 7, 1950, to the parentage of the late Mr. and Mrs. David and Annie Mildred (Smith) Jones. The nuclear family was comprised of both parents; two (2) sons — Willie Roger Broom and Charlie Edward Jones, both deceased; and five (5) daughters including Annye: Emma Jean Winston and Shirlene Hernandez, both deceased; Mrs. Mozelle McCullough (Paul) of Kennesaw, GA, and Mrs. Daisie Smith Hall of Roanoke.
Annye grew up with her nuclear family in the "Hill City"/"NewTown" communities on Strozier Street. This family was one of Roanoke's strong foundational families who were members of the Mount Bethel United Methodist Church, as well as alumni of the historic Randolph County Training School (R.C.T.S.) contributing to the past growth, strength and longevity of both these institutions of our community.
Annye remained in and around Randolph County throughout her life. She united in marriage with Chambers County native, the late Charlie Carlisle (later Reverend Charles H. Carlisle) who many of us remember as a proud and devoted member of the Sweet Home Baptist Church near Five Points. Their marriage of forty-two (42) years, gave rise to a son, Eugene Carlisle, who now resides in San Antonio, Texas. Staying true to her hard-working nature, Annye busied herself by working in the local textile industries — at Candlewick Yarns, Franklin Aluminum, and the Delmonte Tomato Plant. When not busy working she loved traveling, shopping, and helping others. No matter what outside activities she was involved in, she always situated herself so that she could stay close to her mother and continue to provide care for her during her declining years.
Answering that Divine call from this mortal life, Mrs. Annye Carlisle transitioned from this world on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Carroll County, GA. In addition to those already mentioned, she is survived by two (2) grandchildren; a very special niece, Shirley Trammell (Brian), of San Antonio, TX; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
