In Loving Memory of Ms. Annie Pearl Houston
January 9, 1955 – April 14, 2025
With hearts overflowing with both sorrow and gratitude, the family of Ms. Annie Pearl Houston announces her peaceful passing on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the age of 70. A lifelong resident of Roanoke, Alabama, Annie Pearl departed this life while under compassionate care at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Georgia, after a period of declining health due to kidney and heart failure.
Born on January 9, 1955, in Roanoke, Alabama, Annie was the beloved daughter of the late Henry Ware and Ruby Houston Trammell. She was raised in a close-knit, faith-filled family and remained deeply rooted in her hometown throughout her life, with a few adventurous detours that enriched her journey.
After beginning her early education endeavors at the Historic Randolph County Training School (R.C.T.S.), Annie Pearl was a proud graduate of Handley High School. Her strong work ethic and spirited nature were evident in everything she did. While living in Gadsden, Alabama from 1991 to 2001, she worked diligently at a local dry cleaners — always known for her reliability, pride in her work, and her ever-present smile. She also embraced the beauty and culture of Hawaii, where she lived from 2001 to 2003, a brief but meaningful chapter in her life that spoke to her quiet love for new experiences.
A woman of strong Christian faith, Annie Pearl was a devoted member of First Pentecostal Church in Roanoke, Alabama, where her quiet spirit and warm heart were known and appreciated.
Though she never married, Annie Pearl’s life was full of love, especially for her family. She was the proud mother of two sons: Montique Houston and Mario Houston, both of Roanoke; and a bonus son, LaMarcus Appleby. Her joy multiplied with the birth of her grandchildren — Shamar Houston of Atlanta, Georgia, and Mikevion Wenck of Lafayette, AL, Zymerah Fryer of Roanoke — as well as her great-grandchildren, Legend Roussell and Brayden Roussell of Franklin, GA. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and they will always remember her gentle presence and unshakeable love.
She also leaves behind a devoted family circle that includes her siblings: John Frank Houston (Deborah), Patricia Burden (Kerry), Charlotte Houston, Eddie Paul Houston; and step-father: Ralph Trammell — all of Roanoke. Annie was preceded in death by her siblings Charles Ware, Willie Edward Houston, Reuben Houston, Ronald Ware, Mary Holliday, and William Ware. Among her extended loved ones, she is also remembered with affection by special friends: Sister Christine Smith, Sister Annie Faye McCoy, and a host of relatives and friends.
Annie Pearl's quiet dignity, her nurturing soul, and her commitment to family will long be cherished by those who knew and loved her.
A Service of Celebration for Ms. Houston's life will be held on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 549 Riley Street, Roanoke, AL, where Reverend Gilbert Staples serves as Pastor. Reverend Rendell Lee Smith, Jr., Pastor, First Pentecostal Church, Roanoke, AL, will deliver the Eulogy. Interment will follow at East Roanoke Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, April 19, with viewing for the family from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by public visitation from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
