Alfred Hill, Sr. Obituary

Reverend Alfred Hill, Sr. was born November 12, 1926 in Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama to the parentage of the late Henrietta Shealey and Luke Hill, Sr. He was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church, in Roanoke, Alabama.

Reverend Hill attended high school at the Randolph County Training School. Shortly after that, he entered the workforce. A man of many talents, he held employment with the Coca Cola Company until it ceased operations in Roanoke. As an employee of Roanoke Syrup Company, he worked as a truck driver until they left Roanoke and moved their operation to Trussville. Having a strong interest in the service industry, Reverend Hill joined the staff of Clark Funeral Home. Over the next 40 years, he would work at three other local funeral homes: Silmon Mortuary, Roanoke Funeral Home, and finally Goodson Funeral Home, all located in Roanoke. His years in the funeral service industry, enabled him to form life-long friendships with the late Wilkie Clark and the late Reverend George Silmon, Jermaine Johnson, Bishop Lathonia J. Wright, and Roy Goodson. He remained with Goodson until his retirement in 2011. Reverend Hill also worked for a number of years, with the late Walter Whitlow’s Vault Company. In 1999, Reverend Hill became the owner of the East Roanoke Cemetery. He operated this business with his family in mind from the beginning until his health declined. He also served as the pastor of the Williams Grove Baptist Church in Pine Mountain, Georgia.

Reverend Hill is preceded in death by his parents; two (2) daughters: Melmer Trammell and Judy Magby Higgins; three (3) brothers: Sam Hill, Luke Hill, Jr., and John H. Whitaker; four (4) sisters: Judy Adamson, Ruby McGhee, Georgia Ann Coates, Melma Adams; and finally four (4) great grandchildren.

On Saturday, September 28, around 6:30 pm, Reverend Hill transitioned from this life at the home is his daughter, Angelia in Five Points, Alabama, following an extended illness.

Reverend Hll is survived by his former wife, Mrs. Ella (Dunson) Hill; six (6) children: Mary L. Hairston, Alfred Hill, Jr. (Maggie), David Hill and Lamar Pyant (Brenda) all of Roanoke, AL, Reverend Dr. James H. Hill (Wanda) of Virginia Beach, VA and Angelia Hatcher of Five Points, Alabama; one (1) brother, Silus Leon Hill (Gurtie); two (2) sisters: Mary J. Smith of Anniston, AL and Harriet Shears of Roanoke, AL; one (1) son-in-law, Adolphus Trammell, Jr., of Roanoke, AL; twenty-four (24) grandchildren; sixty-one (61) great grandchildren; and thirty-five (35) great-great grandchildren and finally but not least, a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
