“Twinky” joined East Roanoke Pure Holiness Church of God, as a youngster and remained a member there throughout life.
He attended Randolph County Training School, and later Handley High School. He was known all over Roanoke and Randolph County as a colorful character, who made friends everywhere, and knew how to get people to laugh. From a very early age, he started out trying to learn how to make his way in life. He adopted role models that he loved to spend his time with, and that’s how he learned. One of his favorite role models was the late Wilkie Clark, who embraced Twinky’s desire to be his “shadow”. With Mr. Clark, he often found opportunities to perform odd jobs, meet people, and learn by observation. For a number of years, he worked in and around Clark Funeral Home. He was also very smart when it came to motors, and mechanics, which he took up as a trade, and did well. He performed lots of odd jobs, and hired himself out whenever and wherever a service was required that he knew he could perform.
Twinky enjoyed quartet singing, and performed with some of the well-known groups around Wadley.
He married the late Annie O. Owensby, who preceded him in death August 28, 2000.
Yet, with the passage of time, his own life was impacted by ill-health. And despite a gallant fight, this battle clearly could not be won,
Concluding a prolonged battle with declining health, Twinky succumbed to death's demand on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at his home.
Twinky leaves to celebrate his life, mourn his departure, and cherish his loving memory, two (2) daughters: Indian Walker of Montgomery, Alabama; and Brittany Cooper of Smyrna, Georgia; his beloved mother, Mrs. Hazel Hines of Roanoke, Alabama; two (2) brothers, Reverend Billy Hines (Jeanette) of Stockton, Georgia and Michael Hines of LaGrange, Georgia; a special Sister Elisha Smith of Roanoke, Alabama; one special niece, LaShaka Smith; a special cousin, Dekelton Hooks, and a special friend, Minister Charlie Rowland, all of Roanoke, Alabama; along with a great host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Active Pall Bearers will be Gerald Moss, Andre’ Moss, Benjamin Tucker, Wayne Rowland, Harvey Warner, Kenneth Houston, Montique Houston.ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
