In Loving Memory Of Mr. Adolphus Trammell, Jr.
Adolphus Trammell, Jr. was born in Chambers County, AL, on July 6, 1942, to the parentage of the late Adolphus Trammell, Sr., and his beloved wife, Mary Bell Turner Trammell. He was one of nine siblings born to this parentage. The Trammell family was a large, happy, gospel singing family. With respect to the profession of faith, at an early age, Adolphus confessed Christ, and joined New Harmony Baptist Church, in LaFayette, Chambers County. Adolphus was a faithful member of New Harmony throughout his life.
He attended Chambers County Training School, where he excelled as a student athlete, starting on the basketball team. It was sometime during his high school years he also met the love of his life, the late Melmer Lena Hill. They married Dec. 23, 1966 at her parents' home in Roanoke, and started and raised their family here in East Roanoke. Their marriage gave rise to seven (7) children: six (6) fine sons, and one (1) beautiful daughter. Each of their children has grown up to become productive members of society.
Affectionately known to his family as "Uncle Pete" Adolphus as the life of the party anytime he was present for a family event. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Adolphus had a "Green Thumb" with the ability to grow plentiful gardens, as the community awaited the summer, Mr. Trammell prepared his garden for summer harvesting.
Adolphus was a hard-working model husband and father. He devoted many years of service as a production worker in the local Textile Industry. Beginning with Handley Textile Mills here in Roanoke; later Wehadkee Yarn Mills in Rock Mills, and finally Franklin Aluminum (now, Jac Products) in Franklin. After his retirement, he began to have more time to enjoy his favorite activities, Gardening, Hunting with the Rabbit Hunting Club, and collecting scrap metal.
Adolphus was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Melmer on November 11, 2016. After her homegoing, things just weren't the same. He was also preceded in death by brothers: Leonard, Odell, Lawson, and Calvin; and one sister, Lena Mae Trammell. After; walking with God for 82 years, with his loved ones by his side, Mr. Adolphus peacefully transitioned from this life on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at his residence, in Roanoke.
Left behind are many loving memories that will be shared by his six (6) sons: Sylvester Hill (Earnestine), Cedric Tramell (Veta), Wayne Trammell, Patrick Trammell, Joe Trammell (Georgia) and Michael Trammell, all of Roanoke; his only daughter, Millicent King (Rashawn) of Virginia Beach, VA; twenty-seven (27) grandchildren, his last brother, The Reverend William H. Trammell; two (2) sisters: Bernice Trammell and Dora Hildreth, both of Elyria, OH; sisters-in-law: Annie Dora Trammel, Maggie Hill, and May Hairston all of Roanoke; brothers-in-law: David Hill of Roanoke, AL, James Hill (Wanda) of Virginia Beach, VA; and Lamar Pyant (Brenda) of Roanoke; a special niece and caregiver, Angelia Campbell of Roanoke; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
