Lonnie Zachery was born February 9, 1954 to the parentage of the late Charlie and Leola (Buchanan) Zachery in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. This was a large family of 14 siblings. All but two sisters have now transitioned. They included Mae Reacie Wheeler, Carey Zachery, Columbus Zachery, Allen Zachery, Alvin Zachery, Ernest Zachery, Elizabeth Zachery Bailey, Catherine Zachery Staples, Ophelene Battle, Vernon Zachery, Donnie Zachery and Ernestine Zachery.
The Zachery family confessed Christ and joined the body of believers at the Cogar Hill C.M.E. Church in Daviston. Lonnie remained a faithful member at Cogar Hill throughout his life.
Lonnie was united in marriage to the late Florine Foster Zachery, who preceded him in death.
He attended School in Wadley, Alabama; he later worked for the Roanoke Health Care Center as a Maintenance Man.
Lonnie's family will remember him for being a fun-loving brother, who they called a "Joker" because he enjoyed making everybody laugh. He also enjoyed cards and board games, like dominoes, and checkers and was a very good player. With the passage of time, Lonnie was confronted with many health challenges and in 2008, he went to Roanoke Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, where he received excellent care and lived out his final days on this earth.
A loving brother and friend, Lonnie transitioned from this life on Friday morning, November 8, 2019. He was at Roanoke Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. His separation from loved ones on earth, turned into a heavenly reunion with other family members who preceded him in death, including his parents, Charlie and Leola Zachery and his grandson, TyQuan Avery.
He leaves to cherish many loving memories two (2) children -- a son and daughter: Lola Zachery and Lonnie Foster both of Roanoke, Alabama; four (4) grandchildren: Lonnie Foster, Jr., Dralin Ray Foster, Lonnie Nicobe Foster, and Kingston Zachery all of Roanoke, Alabama; two (2) sisters: Rosie Staples (Bennie) of Wadley, Alabama, and Beatrice Ellis of Chicago, Illinois; a great number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other loving relatives and friends.
