Gladys Jean Cook

With sincere sympathy, we announce the passing from this life of Ms. Gladys Jean Cook, age 65, a resident of 145 Knob Drive, Carrollton, Georgia.

Ms. Cook transitioned from this life on Friday, September 20, 2019 at Avalon Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, in Newnan, Coweta County, Georgia after an extended illness.

Visitation hours for Mrs. Cook will be observed on Thursday, September 26, 2019 from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm.

Her life and legacy will be celebrated on Friday, September 27, 2019, at the Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, 385 Old Field Road, Franklin, Georgia, with Reverend Henry L. Smokes, Sr., Pastor officiating.

Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
 

Gladys Jean Cook was born December 18, 1954 to the parentage of the late Frank and Henrietta Cook in Franklin, Heard County, Georgia. She was a member of the Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Franklin, Georgia.

She graduated with the class of 1972 from Heard County High School in Franklin. Following high school, she began the happy years of her life as she entered her workforce career, Ms. Gladys worked at the Sheraton Hotel from 1977 until 1991. She continued her love for working in the hotel industry a few weeks later, when she took up employment with the Holiday Inn Hotel and worked there from 1991 until 2011. Her career in the hospitality industry spanned more than 34 years.

Gladys enjoyed many things in life, but she had a true love for the Atlanta Braves. She enjoyed listening to music as well, she could be heard singing songs written by Marvin Sease, and her favorite song of all time was the Gospel song “On Time God” recorded by Gospel Legend Dottie Peoples.

During her retirement, she moved from Franklin to Carrollton to live with her special nieces, Shirley Cook and Shelia Dixon who were her caregivers as she neared the end of her life.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Henrietta Cook; her only son, Fredrick Lamar Cook; siblings: Marshall Cheeks, Virgil Cheeks, Artis Cheeks, Henry Cheeks, Patsy Ann Cook; by grandchildren: Johnathan K. Cook, Mondale L. Trammell, Martavious J. Cook, Quantez Trammell, Jaylon Quanterrious Brany'yon Cook, and Devin Watts. Triumphantly ending her battle with illness -- surrounded by her family, Gladys transitioned from this life Friday evening, September 20, at the Avalon Health and Rehabilitation Center in Newnan, Georgia, bringing a solemn, peaceful conclusion to an extended illness.

Gladys is survived by three (3) daughters: Felicia Nolan ((Daryl) of LaGrange, GA, Cicely Jeffries (Justin) of Franklin, GA, and Jacqueline Rochelle Norman of Roanoke, AL; two (2) special nieces: Shirley Cook and Shelia Dixon both of Carrollton, GA; six (6) brothers: Otis Cheeks Brown, Amos Cook (Bertha), Quillian Garrett (Vivian) and Hewitt Jones (Pat) all of Franklin, GA; Marvin Cook of Atlanta, Georgia; and JayDee Cook (Clarissa) of Hogansville, GA; two (2) sisters: Fannie Delores Poole (Sonny) of Roanoke, AL and Mary Nell Cook of Franklin, GA; three (3) sisters-in-law: Lorene Cheeks, Bertha Cook, Pat Jones, and Vivian Garrett; nine (9) grandchildren; three (3) great grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and friends.
