With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the passing from this life of Ms. Cornelia "Niecie" Gunn, age 86, a resident of 937 Lanton Street, Atlanta, Georgia. Ms. Gunn transitioned from this life on Thursday evening, December 19, 2019, at the Sadie G. Mays Health & Rehabilitation Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
Cornelia “Niecie” Gunn was one of six siblings, born November 28, 1933, in Chambers County, Alabama to the parentage of the late Emmett and Ola Mae (Phillips) Gunn.
She grew up and attended school in this area, but later relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where she lived and worked for over forty years.
She held employment in the Environmental Services Department at the Federal Building in Atlanta. She enjoyed her work; and aside for her work, she also enjoyed dipping snuff — another one of her favorite pastimes.
Cornelia was preceded in death by two of her siblings: sisters: Lelia Jackson, and Willie Mae Houston. Because of declining health, she went to live at the Sadie G. Mays Health and Rehabilitation Center in Atlanta, where she resided for two years and left her final footprint on this earth. Triumphantly ending her battle with illness, Cornelia transitioned from this life on Thursday evening, December 19, 2019.
Cornelia’s memory will be forever cherished by her two (2) sons, Willie Gunn of Roanoke, and Cecil Gunn of Decatur, AL; two (2) sisters: Nancy Ruth Houston of Roanoke, AL; and Dollie Maude Ellis (Reverend Charlie Ellis); and one (1) brother Emmett Gunn, Jr., both of Youngstown, OH; eight (8) grandchildren including a special granddaughter, Ashley Gunn, Amber Rose, Aaron Gunn, Quinton Hampton, Desmond Rose all of Atlanta, GA; Tamekia Wright and Shontae Gunn both of Roanoke, AL, Taleshia Curry of Buffalo NY; nine (9) great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Geraldine Gunn of Roanoke, AL; and finally but not least, a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
